Fixes for Copy Folder

Top Tip Tuesday is here! Smartsheet’s Copy Folder process has been updated. If you’ve ever duplicated a project folder, or even a full workspace, in Smartsheet only to realise your row automation didn’t update correctly, you’re not alone.
Until recently, automations like “move row” or “copy row” would still reference the original sheets, not the new ones, likewise report sources, dashboard widgets, sheet hyperlinks and cell links too, causing a lot of manual reconfiguration.
But, thanks to Smartsheet’s recent release, this is now fixed. 🙌
When you copy a folder or workspace, any “move row” or “copy row” automations inside it will automatically rewire to point to the corresponding new sheets, not the old ones as well as report sources updating, dashboard widgets updating, cell and sheet links updating to the newly created sheets. Awesome!
So, how does this help?
🚀 Faster setup because you can clone entire project templates and everything works straight away.
✅ No manual fixes because automations update themselves.
⏱ Save time and reduce mistakes especially for repeatable workflows.
Whether you’re rolling out a new project, onboarding a client, or replicating templates, this update ensures everything just works. No cleanup required.
How to get started:
Use the “Save as New” feature on your folder or workspace.
Everything will auto-adjust: they’ll now point to the new destination sheets.
Review for any changes, and you’re ready to launch.
No more broken automations or loose ends. Just cleaner, smarter workflows from the start.
