Smarter Report to Sheet App

Have you ever asked yourselves these questions?

Q.How do I provide people access to only their data without giving them access to the underlying sheet and without having to purchase a Smartsheet Premium app?🧐

Q. How to I get a Chart widget to show me charts on the second or subsequent layer of grouping? 😕

ANSWER: Smarter Report to Sheet app. 💡

This instant app is all about simply sending report data to a new sheet. Why would we need to do that?

Let’s say you have one sheet of activities per client and you need to show management the level of activity you are performing per week/month/qtr.

You’d need to count how many of each activity has been set to complete across all your client’s sheets in a given time interval. Doing this analysis manually in a metric sheet is tricky, as you’d need a cross sheet reference for every sheet you require to pull data from, and keeping the formula up to date when new sheets are added is nigh-on impossible.

Grouping in Reports allow you to count activities, but if you want to add a 2nd level of grouping to show how many of these per that, then sending that second level analysis to a chart widget is not possible.

Report to Sheet is required so you can send your report data gathered from all sheets to a new single sheet, then you can work your magic with metrics only looking in one place for data which is technically stored in many locations.

A different scenario where Report to Sheet helps is to keep people filtered to view just their data.

Do you have a master sheet that you don’t want to share, but you need people to access just their bits?

Then run reports that filter out the data you wish to share and send that data to a new sheet. Then share that new sheet.

This means that you can keep your source data secure but have people shared to the right information without having to publish URLs or share the source sheet.

Report to sheet can be set to run automatically on a daily basis or even continuously.
