More Smartsheet AI tools

Welcome to the first Top Tip Tuesday of November and we’re taking a second look at the new Smartsheet AI tools on offer with their Enterprise plan.
Generate Formulas is designed to help you process, calculate or extract information simply by describing what you’d like the formula to do.
The two stars symbol ✨ on the right rail takes you to the AI menu and then, once you’ve selected Generate Formula, you can use the prompt box to type a description of what you’d like to achieve.
For example, ‘Find the sum of [column 1] and [column 2]’. The panel will offer autocomplete suggestions for column names making this a really simple process.
Once you’ve selected ‘Apply to selected cells’, the AI will create the right formula to give you the data you have requested.
It’s time saving and great for anyone who’s not familiar with formulas.
Here’s a scenario and example:
I have a sheet that lists all Top Tip Tuesdays and within it we state what type of tip we used that week. The column is called [TTT Type].
I used the AI tool to ask “What is the most popular TTT Type”?
When I typed the prompt the AI recognised that I used a column name.
It gave me the correct answer by writing this formula:
=INDEX([TTT Type]:[TTT Type], MATCH(MAX(COUNTIF([TTT Type]:[TTT Type], [TTT Type]:[TTT Type])), COUNTIF([TTT Type]:[TTT Type], [TTT Type]:[TTT Type]), 0))
Can you write formulas like this? It was quick, easy and gave me the right answer! 🙌
